Rolando’s first book published in English, Inselbergs is a volume of poetry accompanied by the author’s own lithographs, combining word and image to reflect her interdisciplinary practice. Inselbergs is translated from Polish by Benjamin Paloff, with an introduction by Paloff and a preface by Marcin Orliński. Inselbergs was first published in Polish in 2020 under the title Ostańce by Publishing House WBPiCAK in Poznań.
Bianka Rolando is an artist, poet, and professor at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. Her works have been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, at the Kunsthalle Bratislava, Yuan Museum in Beijing, Contemporary Art Museum Estonia, Tallinn, CAC Contemporary Art Centre, Vilnius. She exhibits in Poland and around the world and has a long-established connection with the Foksal Gallery in Warsaw. She is an author of ten books of poetry: Apse (2024), Abrash (2022), Inselbergs (2020), Stelle (2018), Pascha (2016), Wetlands (2015), Before the flames (2012), Larch Crowns (2010), White Book (2009), and An Italian Phrasebook (2007). Her artwork combines different types of media in the unique language of artistic expression. In parallel to her artistic work, she writes—not commentaries on art, but rather foundations for her artistic projects. The works present dreamy afterglows, scenes from dreams, or frame reality in such a way that it turns out to be vague in its unveilings. The visual language that defines errors in defining what is depicted precisely so that a liberating poem emerges. They are not proof of achieving some goals but rather testify to the mere passion for traveling and transformation.
Inselbergs is published as part of X Artists’ Books’ X Topics (XT) series, a collection of books focused on the writing and ideas of marginalized voices.
