Manual de deseos is a collaborative project generated by 13 artists - Martín Bernstein, Wendy Cabrera, Ilazki de Portuondo, Daniel Evo, Angela Ferrari, Alexandra Grant, Valentina Guerrero, Madeline Jiménez, Mimi Laquidara, Karla Leyva, Irak Morales, Perla Ramos and Perla Ramos - in a workshop lead by Alexandra Grant at the SOMA school of art in Mexico City in November 2018. The project, and its results, is a book that loosely translates to the “Manual of wishes” or “Manual of desires.” Each workshop participant submitted a wish or petition anonymously to the group and another answered it with an artwork or gesture. The artists then reverse-engineered each gesture into an imaginary “deseo.” Some are sincere and others humorous (like a check that can pay off all taxes). “Manual de deseos” is in Spanish and was printed in Mexico City by Macolen Duplicadora Risografica in an edition of 50, co-published with SOMA.
